Water & Wastewater
The Waterworks Department completes tasks such as daily water testing, well monitoring, chemical testing and monitoring, data entry, maintaining and repairing all underground piping,  line repairs, yearly hydrant testing, water meter installations and readings, and maintenance of lift stations and proper lagoon levels.

The City of Steinbach's Public Water System operates under a five year licence.

The City's water supply system consists of three deep wells, an iron removal plant, and 2,250,000 imperial gallons of surface and elevated storage. In 1999 the City opened its 1.6 million gallon treated water reservoir facility.
The City of Steinbach water supply is tested in accordance with procedures outlined by the Province of Manitoba Health Department.
The City submits 234 water samples per year to the Province for testing. These samples are taken from various areas throughout the City (9 samples every two weeks).
The City takes approximately 400 additional water samples per year, for various internal monitoring purposes.
The City is fortunate to get its water supply from several deep wells, which are superior to sources available to other communities, namely rivers and lakes.
Again in 2003, the City of Steinbach Waterworks staff received a Certificate of Commendation from the Provincial Minister of Health, in recognition of achieving a high standard of operating efficiency with respect to the Community Water Fluoridation Program as administered by Manitoba Health. This is a valuable public health benefit to the citizens of Steinbach, as it reduces dental disease.

Sewage treatment is completed in a state-of-the-art lagoon system which was constructed in 1992. This facility consists of two aerated cells and four facultative cells with a total surface area of 101 acres. Steinbach's sewage treatment facility capacity is designed for a population of 13,300 persons and is located 1.2 miles northwest of the City in the R.M. of Hanover.
Related infrastructure within City limits consists mainly of gravity sewer lines and four separate lift station structures.

The Waterworks Department is responsible for repair and maintenance of public storm sewer infrastructure, including catch basins.
Repair and maintenance requests should be forwarded to the Waterworks Department during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
